Cho Cho San

I am very excited to inform you that I have found a great new Japanese Izakaya. Brought to you by restaurateurs Sam Christie and Jonathan Barthelmess, the brainchild behind Longrain and The Apollo. Also joined by young head chef, Nicholas Wong (ex-Ester, Bodega, Billy Kwong and Rockpool). We just had our dinner there and the food is earth-rockingly brilliant!

Kicking off with beef tataki with wild rice and ginger dressing from the raw bar
Toasted crab bun (my personal favourite!) and pork katsu steam bun

Silken tofu in tomato dashi
Calamari with lime ponzu from the hibachi grill
Enoki mushroom with spring onions infused in truffle oil. The mushrooms were delicate, flavourful and they're oh so aromatic!
Big and juicy grilled king prawns and deep fried prawn heads

Their soy glazed Wagyu beef is indescribably excellent

There's nothing more comforting than a steamed yuzu pudding on a cold night
If you love matcha green tea soft serve you're gonna love it here

Every dish was perfect and and we could not fault anything. Overall, we couldn't recommend Cho Cho San highly enough! If you are ever vaguely in the area, please promise me you'll go?

House of Crabs

Put your bibs on it's about to get messy! An American style seafood restaurant upstairs the Norfolk Hotel is a real treasure trove for all serious seafood fans. You have to smash, crack, poke, nibble, suck and whole lotta patience to get to the meat but it's well worth the effort. Messy dining at its finest.

It was really hard to decide what to get because everything looks so good! We ordered a fair selection and feasted on...

lobster fries dripping with lobster sauce, bacon and corn...utterly delicious!

Cajun crabs

Decent oriental little neck clams...but not as good as their crabs or prawns. Meh for me :(
and more king crabs...(you can never have too much of a good thing!)
and giant juicy QLD prawns
Spotted their one and only dessert, neapolitan ice cream waffle sandwich on the menu. The choice was clear. Topped with almonds, chocolate and raspberry sauce, it was deliciously moreish!

For the ladies if you can drink like a fish, you gotta try their fish bowl cocktails. Literally served in one giant fish bowl.
So if you're looking for a fun place to eat and drink this weekend, I highly recommend House of Crabs. One of the most fun meals I had in Sydney and I'll absolutely be back! ;)
